Valid Site of the week
I thought it would be good to look more deeply at some of the website published on Your Site Is Valid and from now on I am gonna talk about one of the website published during the week every Friday.
For this week I have chosen Patrick Monkel’s website, Karma.
I like the overall look of the website. Very clean and fresh, making good use of white space, this one page portfolio goes straight to the point. Showing the work of its owner.
The large thumbnails drag attention where it’s needed and the nice javascript Zoom effect seems to work very well here.
The code is of course valid. Xhtml Strict without any warning witch is always good to see. Well spaced and indented I can’t fault it in any way. Tags are used wisely, no overuse of div’s. The h1 could be filled with real text for seo purpose and have the picture as the background but other than that, alt attribute on every pictures, title attribute for every links, use of fieldset, legend and label.
I wish all the website were as clean as this one, keep up the good work Patrick.

Thanks for your compliments! I created the site together with Patrick, he did the design, I did the xhtml for him.
I think code should always be as clean as we did for this site.
What I learned from some reading (books and online) is that there is no difference between:
h1 karma /h1
and
h1 img alt=karma /h1
What I think is that the logo for the website is one of the few images that should be in html code i.s.o. in css. At this site the logo is also the most important element on the page, hence my decision
But I’m always open for discussion
Besides that, his PageRank increased from ‘no ranking’ to ‘4 out of 10′ within 4 months of which we are very proud!
