I enjoy doing the ‘Weekly winner’ post on Friday because it’s my best way to say to someone that their design is great. But sometimes, instead of talking about great sites I want to show some bad ones.
You would expect from an auto proclaimed ‘Award winning design company’ to put some effort into their website. I seen that before with Mutiny Design. Good looking site but very bad accessibility. Things have improved since this post.
Now I received this site in the gallery submissions: http://www.61designstreet.com/
What the hell?! I wouldn’t bark after a invalid submission because I get tons everyday. But it’s not just that. The layout is made with tables. TABLES! And inside the tables someone tried to put some code, in a fashion that is not what you would call ‘up to standards’. The counter says 161 errors.
This screams ‘Dreamweaver’ or any other WYSIWYG editor that one should never use in the design mode. Fixed width tds, non-breaking spaces in empty cells, < br /> all over the place, ugly javascript at the top. The list is udge. The code to content ratio on the front page is 10%. Pretty bad when you consider that the recommended ratio is around 50%.
It’s a shame because the design itself is alright and they’ve got some big brands and big boobs in the client banner. I guess they are busy doing clients work.
