And it’s already Friday, time for our site of the week post. This week I chose a nice little translation company called Close-up Translations. I love the colours and the style is a weird mix of grundy/clean/retro that somehow works very well.
And it’s packed full of nice little details, but I’ll tell you more later.
The design
The main content part sits on a light paper texture background, slightly coloured by the years with a picture of a dandelion blowing its seeds in the wind. The heart of the flower is actually a small earth. The rest of the site is quite simple with black text on white background, all highlighted by the vibrant green of the menu and other elements like the flags and link/ titles.
My favourite bit is certainly the clock at the top, displaying a sun next to “my time” during daytime and a small moon at night. I think the use of serif font for the title and sans serif on the text works pretty well in this case.
The code
Being a wordpress based site the code is not surprising. Good old xhtml Transitional valid. The scripts are at the bottom though, which I don’t see very often but I guess it makes sense in a way. The javascript is powered by jQuery. I wanted to see how the clock was working so I had a quick look at the javascript for it and apparently one is displayed with javascript the other is an ajax call to a php function. I am not sure why but hey, it works :p
