Stripe generator 2.0 is another one of those free webtools available. As you may guess it’s a stripe generator for stripe background.
Stripes were a big big trend at the beginning of the “web 2.0″ movement. Seems to loose ground at the moment to the benefits of more complex pattern. Anyway if you need any stripe background don’t go further.
The tool has all you could expect from the family, ajax stripe creator, save, account, share, best patterns, etc…

Typography seems to be a powerful trend at the moment. Everyone wants a nice typographic website.
I think to many web designer use it to get a “cool” trendy look (ok like me on the gallery). What you should aim for when using typography is a clear, well structured and easy to navigate text heavy site.

Smashing Magazine often ask designers and developers to do cool stuff to release for free. Today it is a very nice wordpress theme called Fervens.
The design is from Design Disease and their great designer Elena. Clean and fresh, including two widgetised sidebar and two built in plugin it’s a very cool theme.

Chris at CSS-Tricks has done many screen-cast in the past and he has just finished the Designing for Wordpress serie.
If you are about to start your own Wordpress theme from scratch don’t go further and have a look at those mini-series. You will learn how to design a professional theme from the beginning. Very easy and well explained.

Gzip is a powerful compression format. You can use it to compress files but also to compress pages send by the web server to the client. All the recent browser support gzip and can uncompress a gzipped page on the fly without your user noticing it.
There is lots of tutorial to enable gzip but none of them were working for me except one: ob_gzhandler
