Buying stuff as always been a mater of trust for me. If a company as an awfull website or a rubbish business card it just doesn’t work. The image of a company is crucial in its success so here is a quick check list of where you should spend the extra bit to get a proper design.
Logo Design
You can’t change your logo every two weeks that’s why you want to get it right before printing your promotional material. Getting a logo that sells is tricky, if you don’t have an in house design team don’t hesitate to ask a professional. It cost a bit but you generally get good results and it is definitely a good long term investment. Don’t forget to ask for the source files. You will need them all the time for business cards, fliers, webdesign, etc…
Corporate Identity
Usually goes along with the logo. The corporate identity is a series of style guidelines that describe the image of the brand. It helps to keep consistency between all your promotional materials by defining the colours, fonts, backgrounds, etc…
Branded Emails
if your business hasn’t got an email yet it ’s time, seriously. Even if the utility of html emails can be discussed, a well branded email makes you look professional and trust worthy. Keep it simple: logo + signature. Don’t fall into complex design because email box don’t render them always right. And don’t spam, but that’s off topic.
Website design
The trust issue I was talking about before. E-commerce sites that don’t look good don’t sell. Look at what your competitor are doing and do it better. Clean and simple works, attractive and avant-garde works as well. Messy and all over the place just don’t. Here again ask professional. It’s a lot of responsibility to run this kind of sites.
