BBC new website, valid xhtml 1.0 Strict !
The new BBC front page has been realised today. Definitely web 2.0 the news webpage if full of features and use extensively javascript. Drag and drop, customization/edition of elements make it really attractive and dynamique.
The new design is far more eye catching with rounded corners, colors changing and gradients. I particularly like the flash clock on the top right corner :).
I am pleased to see that this complicated website is also valid xhtml 1.0 Strict. This confirm that big companies start to understand the weight standards have on the web, a good sign for all of us.
The code is well written an respect quite well semantics and seo rules. You will note the big piece of style at the beginning of the page, surrounded by conditional comments dedicated to our friend IE…
The page is ok if javascript is disabled. Allright you loose all the purpose of it but it works. The only thing I would say is that all the buttons like “edit” or the dropdown arrow are still present. I would have been nice to not see them if you do not have javascript enable. The home made javascript classes are driven by the famous J-Query frame work, quite popular at the moment.
All in all the result is really cool, well done to the team who was in charge of the development.
