An insight into the new Google buttons

If you are a Gmail or Google reader user you should have noticed as from yesterday that the buttons have changed. Ok it’s not that obvious at first glance but they are different. The code as also changed for good. Douglas Bowman, Visual Design Lead at Google explain the creation process and idea behind those new custom buttons on his blog, stopdesign.

This is a very interesting article, showing some techniques that are not seen everywhere. I particularly like the way he does the rounded corner effect with only CSS borders. Clever indeed. The CSS based gradient is also interesting, even if it doesn’t work in every browsers.
